Fed town

Council on Competitiveness meeting in Washington. Fed town is weird. It's jarring to see people using ancient Blackberries ...

State Department dinner.

iPhones, and maybe now Windows phones were the only ones to get reasonable support for enterprise email, other than blackberry.

indeed, and still, the most demanding security requirements can only be met by the blackberry ... as witnessed by the fact it is illegal to use a bberry in Russia, but other smartphones all just fine ...

Did you get around the city Steve? The thing that jars me is that inside the beltway (at least northwesterly of the capital) it feels like national GDP growth is 7%

As an SV guy, DC gives me the hives. No value creation here, but lots of skim.

Head over to the East side of town and you can enjoy buying food and other items from workers encased behind bullet-proof glass.

Which is more valuable to the nation -- Medicare or Google?

actually, I would argue Google. Medicare is just a redistribution scheme, and a bad one at that since a single payer system (like they have in the rest of the developed world) is probably superior. Google creates real wealth for the U.S. and the world.
