The Continental-Analytic Split in philosophy.
Gary Taubes is probably right about the saturated fat hypothesis, but he is just as guilty of cherry-picking data and ignoring results that contradict his assumptions as other medical researchers. Numerous studies with calorie controlled diets show no metabolic advantage to ketosis for fat loss. On ketogenic diets, you loose a substantial amount of water-weight, complicating studies that examine weight-loss alone.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, in his books, Taubes hardly mentions the downsides to ketosis: reduced athletic performance (for activies that need glycogen like weight-lifting or sprinting) and, while apparently not true for everyone, impaired cognition for some.
Personally, after four weeks in ketosis, I was not adapted enough to think clearly or lift weights effectively and had to quit.
The Continental-Analytic Split.
ReplyDeleteAlthough it is not quite this simple the bottom line is that analytic philosophers are like conceptual artists: shallow, untalented fakers or they are just stupid. Read any of them. It's should be obvious to any one but them. Unfortunately Continental philosophy is confused in the minds of analytic "philosophers" with 20th century French philosophy and literary criticism which is even stupider.
