Love it? Hate it? Vote here -- I can roll back if I'm the only one who likes the new design...
Note links to older posts (archive, categories by label) are at the bottom of the page -- just hit the "Archive" link above to go there, or scroll all the way down.
I prefer the old layout. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this layout! At least on Linux, the old layout was too narrow---this wastes no space.
ReplyDeleteSo I vote YES to the new layout!

I read your feed in Bloglines and have never(?) visited the site itself, so it doesn't matter. :)

Nice clean layout, a rarity among blogs...
ReplyDeleteI like it. The bigger type face and more room for pictures more than makes up for the lack of color.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the advertising??
ReplyDeleteThe new layout is clean. But it hurts my eyes. The text is too big. I like the old layout better.
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeletethe (much) bigger font suggests that you have a really large monitor now.

off topic. But well deserved Nobel Prize in physics!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Nambu(especially), Kobayashi and Masakawa!

The new format loads a lot faster.
ReplyDeleteHrmph!

The old ways...are...best.
I drop in for the content. I'll leave the aesthetics of the layout to you. You might as well be happy with it!
ReplyDeleteDown with the new layout!!
ReplyDeleteI also like the old layout - this one is fast to load admittedly, but you had a nice banner and colour scheme going on before which I found appealing.
ReplyDeleteHate it. (It IS your blog, but you asked - I agree with the "hurts my eyes" comment)

I don't like the new layout at all. The smaller type of the old one was much better.
ReplyDeletei prefer the old layout
ReplyDeleteGood layout. Readers like me can now more easily comprehend why you so often praise North-east asians in this blog. :-)

Hate it. I liked having links to archives, recent posts etc immediately accessible. And the font is ginormous and goes completely across my 24" monitor.
ReplyDeleteThe old layout was nicer.
ReplyDeleteThe blog shows originality in its simple format, and stands out from the usual 2-column/3-column blogspot layout. Here's a BIG problem however:
ReplyDeleteThe text section is a bit wide. According to web design studies I've read, 10-12 words makes optimally comfortable reading for the reader. (Apparently this has something to do with not having to slightly turn the head from left to right every line.) Yours is wider than that.
Secondly, big font isn't necessarily a good thing. Yes, it helps those nearsighted-to-the-point-of-blindness, but how many of these readers do you have?
Small font allows faster reading (e.g., more words per unit inch). Your readership definitely has more brights than blinds.
I do like the placement of your mug at the top. That brands your blog, it's burned into your reader's mind. Saves a lot of time making logos or layout schemes. The simplest is to personalize it.
I say make the photo bigger. You have straight teeth, and should show it off.
Perhaps keep the general format, but shrink the text column to just 40% of the page (let's say 480px fixed width if u do fixed) and shrink the font to 10.
ReplyDeleteThat would preserve all the strengths of the current format (simplicity), while further brand-differentiating from the prole's two-column blogspot.
Monster fonts are making me feel like an old person.
ReplyDeleteI just tried reducing the font. Did that help?
ReplyDeleteI have a big monitor and I habitually keep my browser at a larger font (using apple+ or ctrl+ on safari / firefox), because other web pages use smaller fonts. Under these conditions my blog looks like it has huge fonts, but when I load it in a newly opened safari or firefox window (which is at the default font setting), my blog looks pretty normal.
But there is no accounting for the vagaries of browsers, etc.
Let me know if the font reduction is an improvement.
The font's bearable, but IMO the column's too wide (on my 17" monitor, 1024x768.) The text fills up my screenful, like my spaceship's about to crash into the sun.
ReplyDeleteLoved the old layout. New one is too wide, font is big, and because of the labels the page always look much longer than the actual post.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really like about the new format is the header w/ photo, becuz that's the first thing the reader sees.
ReplyDeleteSomehow that brands the blog in the best way possible (hey, the author's the star performer, after all), and differentiates it immediately from other blogs in a way that a photo in the sidebar doesn't.
But this is whining and bordering on trolling cuz it's for the third time: the center column's faaaaaaaaaar too wide. It looks huge.
It's growin' on me...
