Digit ratio


Sounds nutty, but what the heck! Don't blame me if I lose my temper or become violent -- my digit ratio made me do it! ;-)

In boys, “during fetal development there’s a surge in testosterone in the middle of the second trimester” that seems to influence future health and behavior, says Pete Hurd, a neuroscientist at the University of Alberta. One easy-to-spot result of this flood of testosterone: a ring finger that’s significantly longer than the index finger.

hmmm, I can tilt my fingers towards the pinky and make the ring as long as the middle, or tilt towards the index and make the ring only somewhat longer than the index ... how does one make an accurate measurement?

The wikipedia article gives a length definition, but it's hard to measure accurately.

There were some studies that predict pretty accurately the winners of sprints based solely on the difference between ring and index finger. The explanation was testosterone is correlated with this difference in males.
